Dr. Spurgeon Banyard
An experienced and accomplished educational professional, Spurgeon Banyard is a principal within the Jefferson Davis County School District, which he joined in 2023. In this role, he looks to increase the academic performance at Jefferson Davis County High School while providing a safe and comfortable environment that encourages the students to learn.
Dr. Banyard has received several accolades during his career, such as being named Administrator of the Year by Birmingham City Schools in 2009, alongside being featured in a Birmingham News article.
Dr. Banyard brings a wealth of experience totaling 26 years as an educator. As a leader, he believes in accountability. He stresses the importance of building relationships with the faculty and students. Banyard is proud to be the leader of Jefferson Davis County High School.
Alongside his role as a Principal, Spurgeon Banyard is currently a University of Mississippi Medical Center Police Officer, a position he began in 2022. In this role he's responsible for protecting all staff, patients and visitors at the hospital.
Dr. Banyard is involved with a range of professional organizations, including the Mississippi Association of Educators, National Association of Secondary School Principals, Mississippi Association of School Superintendents, NAESP, AEA, LEA and a host of other professional organizations.
Dr. Banyard believes in putting children first and doing what's best for the children.
